Overview

As noted in our recent look at the job shortage in France, the Financial Times has reported that more than 4,000 of the country’s 27,300 posts remain open. The article highlights that the teacher shortage problem is stymying school organisations across the EU – with France, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Austria having a combined shortage of 80,000 teachers.

UK schools have opted not to close following the death of Queen Elizabeth II this week (RIP). The decision is notably in contrast to Dubai’s decision to temporarily close down its schools in similar circumstances earlier this year.

A report on the school expenditure of US states this week finds that states in the north east, notably New York and New Jersey, spend the most on students, while states in the south and mid-west, specifically Idaho and Utah, are spending the least.
